A few short texts might be enough to nudge teenagers toward a healthier plant-based lunch. A new study found that brief, fact-based messages increased plant-based meal choices among teens.
Researchers followed 586 young people ages 11 to 16 in the UK and Ireland, none of whom were vegetarian or vegan when the study began. Each weekday morning, some participants received a short message from a fictional influencer named Sasha featuring a fact about health, the environment or animal welfare. After two weeks, plant-based lunch choices among teens receiving messages had climbed from 44 percent to 59 percent, while choices in the no-message group stayed around 45 percent.
So apparently, if you want to get teens to eat more plant-based meals, you just need to communicate with them in a way they understand… via text.
