Think regular tap water is fine for your morning brew? Well, the experts disagree and say filtered water can actually make your coffee taste better and may even help your coffee maker last longer. Filtering can remove chlorine, metallic notes and other off-flavors that boiling alone won’t eliminate, while also cutting down on mineral scale that can build up in kettles, drip machines and espresso makers. But don’t go too far with distilled water, because coffee still needs some minerals to extract properly and taste its best. If your tap water isn’t great, you don’t have to go all in with an expensive filtration system, a simple pitcher or faucet filter is a good place to start.
