Plant-based old-schoolers may recognize a familiar name returning to grocery shelves. Yves Veggie Cuisine is back after being discontinued last year, with six products making a comeback under new owner Maple Leaf Foods.

The revived lineup includes three varieties of veggie ground round, along with soy-based bologna, ham and turkey deli slices. Yves products started returning to some stores earlier this month, about a year after the 40-year-old brand disappeared. Maple Leaf says it’s focusing on longtime Yves customers, including vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians.

The company is betting that today’s enthusiasm for high-protein foods, along with rising meat prices, could give Yves a second life. It’s also keeping the comeback simple, focusing on ground meat and deli alternatives rather than immediately restoring the brand’s once-larger lineup.

For longtime Yves fans, six returning products is a pretty good start. And if the comeback goes well, maybe a few more old favorites will eventually find their way back to the refrigerated case.
