A new study suggests that people who are genetically predisposed to enjoy onions may also have lower blood pressure and a reduced risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Researchers analyzed genetic data tied to taste and smell preferences from more than 160-thousand adults and found onions were the only food whose results remained consistent across multiple analyses (or is it analysises?) and age groups. While the findings are promising, scientists say more research is needed and stress that onions should be considered just part of an overall healthy diet and not a replacement for proven blood pressure treatments.
