A 2024 study of more than 120-thousand adults found that consuming six additional servings of flavonoid-rich foods and drinks per day was associated with a 28% lower risk of dementia. Flavonoids have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help protect brain cells from damage, and other research has linked them to a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers too. Researchers stress that these findings show associations rather than guaranteeing that flavonoids will prevent disease.
